2013 ford explorer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Roomy suv with contemporary technology. introductionthe ford explorer is one the best seven-passenger sport-utility vehicles available. It delivers the function and family friendly features of a minivan with the rugged appeal of an suv.  new for 2013 is an explorer sport trim with a twin-turbocharged version of ford's 3. 5-liter v6 engine, a sport-tuned suspension and all-wheel-drive. Using premium gas, explorer sport makes up to 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.  new options on 2013 explorer limited models include a lane departure warning system, heated steering wheel and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering column. All 2013 explorer models come standard with a front-passenger knee airbag.  this latest generation of the ford explorer, introduced for 2011, features a one-piece, unibody design rather than a ladder-type truck frame with a separate, bolted on body. The result is more car-like driving dynamics, as well as significant weight savings, which translates to better fuel economy.  powering all 2013 ford explorer models except the sport is 3. 5-liter v6 that makes 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It also includes hill start assist and hill descent control.  fuel economy with the base v6 engine on front-wheel-drive explorer models is an epa-estimated 17/24 mpg city/highway, or 17/23 mpg city/highway on 4wd models.  even with regular all-season tires, the explorer will blast through sand or traverse deep ditches and steep hills, no problem. It has more power than the standard v6 in the previous-generation explorer, with 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, and delivers an epa-estimated 20/28 mpg city/highway.  the 2. 0 ecoboost is sufficiently powerful, and acceptable if mileage is the absolute priority. We prefer the standard 290-horspower v6 with its smooth, strong acceleration.  explorer's chassis is super rigid, which not only makes for great crash-test scores, but also a quiet cabin, excellent ride quality and solid handling that belies the explorer's considerable size.  inside, there is plenty of legroom in the second row, real space for passengers in the third, and up to 80. 7 cubic-feet of cargo space. It can be reconfigured in seconds, with split rear seats that fold with a button on each side and bounce back up with the pull of a lever. The interior is smartly styled and well finished. The materials and build quality are quite good.  the base explorer comes well equipped. The upgraded limited trim is leather-upholstered, with heated-seats and offered with premium audio, navigation and rear-seat dvd entertainment. The myfordtouch interface is optional, but can be cumbersome and at least a little annoying.  other suvs to consider in this class include the buick enclave, chevrolet traverse, dodge durango, gmc acadia, honda pilot or mazda cx-9. Fuel economy is an epa-estimated17/24 mpg city/highway and 17/23 mpg city/highway on 4wd models. Of torque with an epa-estimated 20/28 mpg city/highway.  explorer 29,100) comes standard with fabric upholstery, air conditioning, a six-way power driver seat with manual recline, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with audio controls, power windows, locks and outside mirrors, a trip computer, 60/40 split-folding second-row seats, 50/50 split third-row seats, a six-speaker audio system with single cd player and auxiliary audio jack, rear privacy glass, roof rails and 17-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. Options include a tow package 570) and a sync with myford pakage 295), which adds voice activation, bluetooth and siriussx satellite radio capability with a six-month subscription.  explorer xlt 32,680) adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, ford's sync voice activation with satellite radio capability, a usb audio port, a keyless entry touchpad on the driver's door, automatic headlamps, rear parking sensors and 18-inch alloy wheels.  explorer limited 38,100) gets leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12-speaker sony audio system with hd radio, power adjustable pedals with memory, a cargo net, a rearview camera, remote start, a 110-volt outlet, 20-inch painted aluminum wheels, and the myfordtouch touchscreen interface. Of torque (using premium fuel). Epa fuel economy estimates are 16/22 mpg city/highway. Standard features include sport front seats with fabric upholstery, unique interior and exterior trim, and many of the standard features found on the limited model.  safety features include ford's curve control, which monitors vehicle speed going into a corner and applies braking to individual wheels as needed, as well as mykey, which allows owners to set limits for vehicle speed and stereo volume. Other standard safety features include front side airbags, side curtain airbags, a front passenger knee airbag, stability control, traction control and trailer sway control.  optional safety features include a blind spot warning system with cross-traffic alert on explorer xlt models and above. Limited and sport models also get an available lane-departure warning and keeping system, as well as forward collision warning. walkaroundthe ford explorer is rugged but refined, familiar but fresh. It's a foot longer than the ford edge crossover, a few inches shorter than the dodge durango suv and about eight inches shorter than the chevy traverse. The amber indicators sweep back like narrow wings atop tidy main projector beams. The plastic grille is gray on the base explorer, body-colored on the xlt and satin-chrome on the limited. The hood looks short from the side, but long when looking straight down it. It's got two parallel humps and a scoop in the center. Rear taillights are led, and also look good.  the window outline is clean, bold and symmetrical, with blackened a-, b-, and d-pillars, and body-colored c-pillars that slant down and back and impart forward motion to the vehicle. The fender flares are inspired by the mustang and body sides follow the lines of the taurus. The three-bar grille strikes resemble those of the range rover, which was once-upon-a-time a member of the ford family.  wheels are 17-inch steel with plastic covers on the base explorer, 10-spoke 18-inch painted aluminum on the xlt, and 20-inch painted aluminum with spokes like flower petals on the limited. The optional 20-inch polished aluminum wheels have spokes like shriveling flower petals or crab pincers, and don't do justice to the car. interiorfit and finish inside the explorer is excellent, and we particularly like the limited's leather seats.  the front seats sit up high, which is good because the hood looks long from the driver's seat. The slanted center stack has a clean design and uses stylish satin-finish trim materials. The doors have metal speaker grilles, and curve into the dash panel. There's a big glovebox with a shelf, leather grab handles and armrests on explorers with leather interior, and long door pockets with space for a bottle.  one reason we like the base model is its conventional gauges, relatively simple 4. 2-inch lcd screen at the top of the center stack, and familiar mechanical knobs below. The base explorer doesn't come with the myfordtouch driver connect technology, and neither does the xlt, unless it's chosen as an option.  cars equipped with myfordtouch have two driver-configurable lcd screens in front of the driver on either side a big speedometer, and an 8-inch color touch screen at the top of the center stack. 2010 honda accord review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Solid mid-size sedans and coupes. introductionthe honda accord comes in sedan and coupe versions. Either way, the accord is big on efficiency, be it getting the most power and range from a gallon of gas with the least emissions, making the largest interior available given the exterior space it takes up, or providing the smoothest, quietest ride possible with the lightest weight. The two model years since have brought little change.  for 2010, all accord models with leather interiors come with a bluetooth hands-free phone link. The lx sedan 21,055) comes standard with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, power mirrors and door locks, power windows, variable intermittent wipers, tilt-and-telescoping steering column and illuminated wheel-mounted controls, folding rear seats, and an mp3/wma/auxiliary-input 160-watt sound system. Wheels are 16-inch steel with p215/60hr16 tires. The lx-p sedan 22,055) is an lx with a premium package that adds alloy wheels, a power driver's seat, illuminated power window switches and express up/down for the front passenger’s window, security system, and a chrome tailpipe. They also come with five-speed manual or automatic transmission 800). All three add an in-dash cd changer, an information screen controlled by a selector knob, and 17-inch alloy wheels with p225/50 all-season tires; while the two ex models also benefit from a power moonroof, heated mirrors, and premium interior accents. To this the ex coupe adds a 270-watt stereo, and the ex sedan adds driver power lumbar adjustment and new-for-2010 rear-seat ventilation ducts,  the ex sedan is also available with a 271 horsepower 3. 5-liter v6 and five-speed automatic 26,805). It comes with most of the same amenities as the ex-l v6 sedan, and adds 18-inch alloy wheels with 235/45vr18 tires and a rear decklid spoiler.  an optional navigation system features voice-activation and steering wheel controls. Accords with this package are priced as separate models of the ex-l sedan 28,030), ex-l coupe 28,080), ex-l v6 sedan 31,105), and ex-l v6 coupe 31,305).  safety equipment is standard, with six airbags, including two-stage front airbags, dual-chamber front side airbags, side curtain airbags; active front head restraints, electronic stability control, antilock brakes with electronic brake distribution and brake assist, and tire pressure monitors. walkaroundthe honda accord features contemporary yet conservative design highlighted by a strong character line that slopes down and forward like that of the acura tl. Last redesigned for 2008, the current accord features narrow windshield pillars and a low cowl for good forward visibility, honda hallmarks. Many modern design elements are the result of auto/pedestrian collision standards. The wiper arm mounts are designed to break away when hit, for example.  forward lights are aptly described as hawk-like and look fiercer on coupes because they use projector headlamps as opposed to the conventional reflector design on the sedans; v6 models include fog lamps. At the rear the lamp elements appear cut off at the style line rather than extending up to the top trunk seam. This contributes a sense of heaviness and more closely mirrors the rounded rear end styling of the acura rl rather than the taut crispness of the tl.  the current accord sedan is larger than any before, and although it competes in the mid-size market segment it is by epa interpretation a large car. It is about five inches longer than primary competitor camry, and more than three inches longer that the nissan altima and maxima.  the coupe, on the other hand, won't be confused with a large car. Virtually every exterior dimension save width is 2-4 inches smaller than that of the sedan. The coupe is sleeker yet still fits the accord mold. Stepping up to an accord ex-l with leather adds features, but the basics like seat design and driver ergonomics are shared by all models.  the tilt-and-telescoping steering column provides a good range of adjustment to complement the adjustable driver’s seat, so all the masses can find a good driving position. There's a clear view of what’s all around outside, and of the instrument panel with its proven dial-and-needle gauges. The information display or navigation screen is inset under a shade at the same height as the gauges, so glare is controlled, and the screen can be viewed with polarized glasses.  accord ex-l models come with leather on the seats, steering wheel, manual shifter and door panels. The ex-l leather appears of high quality and assembly as does the rest of the car. The width of the accord translates directly into a wide cabin, especially in front. The center armrest was designed to be big enough for two adults to share without awkward glances.  rear-seat passengers will have few complaints as few do in large cars. Seat cushions and backrest carry right out to the door without wheelwell intrusion, offer space for a six-footer to sit comfortably behind another one, and easy entry and egress. The center seat is better padded than many, and as such it loses a bit of headroom to the outer seats. There are no rear reading lamps.  three interior colors are offered on the sedans, black, gray, and ivory, while the coupe goes black or ivory only. Honda's graphics for the variable intermittent wipers are among the simplest: rather than bars, lines or dots of differing size, the accord uses one raindrop for long interval and three raindrops for more frequent wiping. The shifter is right at hand, and the proper handbrake has short travel.  controls for sound, climate, and navigation are central below the navigation screen and vents. One row of switches controls audio input (am, xm, cd, etc.) and another row has six audio presets. Climate Control✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Power Mirrors✔ CD Changer✔ Air Conditioning✔ Bluetooth✔ Navigation System✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Alloy Wheels
